In-house speech contest on Feb. 7th, 2010

The Atsugi-Zama Toastmasters club held an in-house speech contest, on Feb. 7th, 2010. We had six great experienced speakers participating as contestants! Each speaker delivered a 5-to-7 minutes speech. This contest was qualifying for the Area 23 contest, which in turn will be qualifying for the District 76 (Japan) contest, and then to the international level.



Contestants
  • TM Sakuragi explained the importance of understanding the context when communicating, in his speech titled "KY";
  • TM Ofori gave an inspiring speech, titled "If You Don't Try...", on the importance of fostering creativity and initiative in children;
  • TM Tateishi gave very practical advice to overcome anxiety, in her speech titled "How Do You Cope With It?";
  • TM Maruyama encouraged the audience to be more sensitive to people's background when communicating, with his speech titled "Get to Know Them!";
  • TM Takayanagi told the story of her fight against disease, in her speech titled "Disease Can't Beat Me";
  • TM Hasegawa described recent advances in allergy treatment, in her speech titled "Victory Over Peanut".
Winners


  • TM Maruyama: Best Speaker;
  • TM Tateishi: 2nd Best Speaker;
  • TM Sakuragi: 3rd Best Speaker.
Congratulations to the winners! TM Maruyama will participate in the Area 23 speech contest, and may go up to the international-level speech contest. Good luck!
