Meeting on April 18th, 2010

The Atsugi-Zama Toastmasters club held another great meeting on April 18th, 2010. 13 club members and 2 guests attended the meeting.

Summary of the meeting
  • We held our second speaker coaching session, an extra educational session before the regular meeting to coach some members and help them prepare their speeches;
  • TM Yoshikawa opened the meeting with the Joke Master Session;
  • TM Maruyama led the Table Topics Session, asking randomly selected speakers to report news like TV newscasters;
  • The Toastmaster of the Day, TM Lenglet, experimented with adding a Hot Speech Session to the agenda, where a volunteer is asked to give a 4-to-7-minute unprepared speech on a freely selected topic. TM Komura volunteered, and delivered an amazing impromptu speech titled "Unexpected Things Happen Everyday";
  • Three members gave prepared speeches:
    • TM M. Inoue persuaded the audience to try to reach win-win solutions in conflict situation, in his speech titled "Dispute" (Project #3, Public Relations Manual);
    • TM Y. Inoue's speech, titled "The Best Gift", explained why women have more health-risks than men when drinking (Project #5, CC Manual);
    • TM Horioka introduced several methods to keep our work, private, and Toastmasters-related responsibilites in balance, in his speech titled "Work-Life-English Balance" (Project #2, CC Manual);
  • Constructive speech evaluations were given by the General Evaluator (TM Komura) and four Evaluators (resp., TM Fukuda, TM Perkins, TM Tateishi, and TM Sakuragi).
Awards
  • Best Table Topics Speaker: TM Wada
  • Best Prepared Speaker: TM Komura (for her impromptu Hot Speech)
  • Best Evaluator: TM Tateishi (evaluating TM Y. Inoue)
